9GAG is a site to post, view, and collect funny images and videos. Users can subscribe to others “Fun” so that they can see it on a customized homepage.
9GAG was created by Ray Chan and the crew from Rollin’ Egg, an innovative startup company with several projects in the works. There is very little information available about 9GAG or Rollin’ Egg.
Anyone can post to 9GAG and cite the source so that proper credit is given. By doing this, users can create their own page of favorite funnies and share them with friends without sending them all over the Internet searching for originals.
Each post is referred to as a “Fun”. Funs may be videos, drawings, modified images, or videos.
Once registered, the user is sent to their homepage with recent “Fun” postings. Any post may be shared, commented on, or liked with one click. By clicking a plus sign, users can save a “Fun” to their collection.
Profile allows avatar upload, color choices, addition of bio, link to website and more. Handy keyboard shortcuts are available: S = Share; C = Comment; V = View; J = Next; K = Previous; L = Like.
“Fun” can be posted in either image or video form. Profiles are simple and allow sharing collections with friends. In the toolbar, users can choose Fun, People, or +Post.
Fun leads to a page where posts from people you “admire” will appear. It also has links to Hot, New, and Top posts. There are several ways to get started on the site, simply browsing the “Fun” or getting down to checking out People and Admiring them. This builds your homepage and you will get to see the latest from people whose work you like. Hot are the entries that are most popular on the Internet at the time of viewing. New are the latest Fun entries from either Top Users or All Users, depending on the selection. Top displays the entries that received the most likes over the last 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days, or all time.
The People section provides the “Hall of Fun” that are presumably suggestions based on your likes, though no description is provided. The Top 99 are the 99 people with the most admirers.
Users may have seen some of the members before. Graphjam, FAILBlog, and xkcd all have accounts on the site. When reading through a page, it is easy to share a great piece of “Fun” on Facebook or Twitter. It just takes a click or two and it is automatically posted if you have linked your account.
To post to 9GAG, a JPEG, GIF, or PNG with a 3MB max size is uploaded or linked to with title, tag, and source. Please note if the image is NSFW (Not Safe For Work). Videos must be hosted elsewhere with a URL provided. It is recommended that the source is credited if the user did not create the item themselves. Upload is fast and easy.
On the top toolbar there is also a “shuffle” button that generates random people for fun viewing.
Overall, the site is fun, easy, and intuitive. Sharing funny images has never been this easy – anyone can do it.
To register, a user must provide a username, password, and email address or simply link with Facebook. If linking with Facebook, permission must be granted and username and password for 9GAG created.
9GAG is complete free of charge.
Anyone who appreciates humor and enjoys sharing funny images, comics, videos, and photos online will like using 9GAG.
